Ditch fast fashion, that's so last year.
Did you know that fast fashion forms the largest part of the fashion industry? Additionally, most labourers are paid low wages, and environmental pollution is high.
Here at HABIT.AT, we aim to operate ethically and provide sustainable wear in order to help reduce harmful impacts on the environment. According to an article written by Sakuko from Zerrin Magazine, most local fashion brands lack transparency. Majority of them do not disclose the types of materials their clothes are made of and how they source for their materials. Additionally, their clothes are made affordable as they are made of polyester (basically..you're wearing plastic) which will then be released into the sea every time you wash it. When you wash your clothes, about 500,000 tonnes of microfibers are being released each year - that's equivalent to 50 million bottle plastics! Imagine the number of sea animals that are affected..
Moreover, a lot of unwanted clothing ends up in the landfill. For every second, one garbage truck full of clothes are being burned in the dump. If this continues, we will eventually run out of land to get rid of our clothes.
Thankfully, as the younger generation is more exposed to social media and emerging trends, we are receptive to change! As years pass, there is an increasing number of local sustainable businesses that are pushing for more transparency in the industry. So, let us support local sustainable brands and live more consciously!
